This book is an analysis of Egyptian epic hexameter production from the 3rd to the 6th centuries AD, especially that of the southern region (Thebaid). Authors and poetry are related directly to the social-economic, cultural and literary contexts from which they come. This study originated in the PhD of the author (2003-6), and was completed in Oxford after 18 months of thorough papyrological and textual research. Word count: approx. 173,000 words.
