Double-weighted statement

This book, composed over the last five years, is 97,000 words, excluding the Greek text. The Introduction involved new research on the narratology of the two books and the use of recognition as a compositional device throughout the second half of the poem; on the sociology, ideological stances, and generic mixture of the whole poem; and on the intertextual engagement of the poem with the Iliad and the Trojan War. The Commentary (65,000 words) on the 973 lines is based on detailed literary, sociological, archaeological and linguistic study.
