Additional information

Women’s Writing is an analysis of a hundred works by women concerning Muslim societies. About half the authors are Muslims. The work traces the development from the pleasure orientated travel writing of the Orientalists to the more recent horror stories of terrorism and grim sexual oppression. It also notes the rise of the Muslim misery memoir and the difficult struggle by Muslim women to find their voice within Western-orientated cultural industries. The work concludes by questioning the validity of the first-person narrative.
