<23> Optimising the alignment (correspondence) of a set of images is an essential step in modelling anatomical variation in medical images. This work is significant, because it shows how a minimum description length approach, already used successfully in shape modelling, can be extended to image modelling – a far more challenging problem. This provided one of the key building blocks of a practical approach to modelling and interpreting medical images, which forms the core technology of spin-out imorphics (see impact case study).
