Additional information

This is the first work to successfully apply estimation techniques from control theory to a system of the complexity of a non-parallel, boundary-layer flow. This interdisciplinary work was the foundation for the successful EPSRC grant EP/K007386/1, a proposal supported by Vestas Wind Systems (contact: Senior Specialist) applying such techniques to wind-turbine gust prediction within the atmospheric boundary layer. The proposal was highest ranked in its prioritization panel with the reviewers describing it as “at the forefront of the flow control area” reflecting the unique methodology and approach developed in this paper.
