Richardson produced the initial proposal for the research, developed collaborative links with the Natural History Museum, London, for the project, and gained funding from Edge Hill University in the form of a PhD studentship (for Lang). He was Principal Supervisor for the PhD, and assisted with field sampling of the sediment core and contributed to the analysis of the data.
