Time-Frequency Analysis of Single-Point Engine-Block Vibration Measurements for Multiple Excitation-Event Identification
To cost-effectively reconstruct IC engine cylinder pressure using a neural network (needed for advanced combustion control for low carbon vehicles) pre-processing of measured sensor signals is essential to eliminate the effect of unwanted non-combustion events. The work showed for the first time that the Short-Term-Fourier-Transform can indeed identify these events. This was demonstrated via totally-novel data collection experiments, showing that non-combustion events, such as valve-closure and fuel-injections, can be successfully isolated from the data.
