Aerodynamics of Battle-damaged Finite-Aspect-Ratio Wings
Relatively little research has been conducted into the aerodynamics of battle-damaged finite-aspect-ratio wings and hence very limited knowledge and data in this particular area are available for the combat aircraft designers. New insight into the aerodynamics of battle-damaged finite-aspect-ratio wings has been presented, quantifying lift-coefficient decrements and drag-coefficient increments due to simulated gunfire damage. The effect of the damage depends upon its location, the closer to the fuselage the greater the effect. Quantifying the effects as a function of location, enables designers to consider location specific design and fabrication methods.
