LES of Wall-bounded Flows using a New Subgrid Scale Model Based on Energy Spectrum Dissipation
A new sub-grid-scale (SGS) model, novel in approach for calculating the rate of dissipation of the SGS kinetic energy, has been developed. SGS modelling is crucial in ensuring the accuracy of Large Eddy Simulation (LES), the most promising approach to predict practical engineering flows. All previous SGS models are inadequate with relatively poor mesh resolution; the computational overhead associated with fine meshes being impractical.
The superior performance when compared against other SGS models, means the application of the new model has the potential to lead to a novel route for developing advanced SGS models in LES community.
