Track replenishment by lateral vibrations in grease-lubricated EHD contacts
Many experimental studies have revealed that, in the absence of mechanisms to replenish the rolling track, grease lubricated contacts suffer from starvation which translates to poor lubrication and low durability. This is the first paper published in a scientific journal which gives an insight into the mechanisms of rolling contacts’ lubrication when subjected to lateral vibrations. The results show that lateral vibrations are beneficial to the lubrication mechanisms of grease lubricants. The findings shed new light on the understanding of the lubrication of machine components such as rolling element bearings, with impact upon the extent of their working life.
