Additional information

This paper forms part of a series by the authors on flood risk to people and vehicles. The work includes new formulae for the incipient velocity of vehicles moving during floods, developed from experiments using scaled model vehicles and associated theory. These formulae have been included in Centre’s numerical model. The work also includes a new flood hazard formula for people safety, which is physics based and therefore unlike the empirical formula currently used by government agencies. There is currently wide interest in using this new flood hazard formula, e.g. Natural Resources Wales (Jeremy Parr, Jeremy.Parr@naturalresourceswales.gov.uk, Case Study 1).
