Blogs and the e-Flective Practitioner. Professional, not Confessional
This chapter, published in a peer-reviewed book edited by Professor John O'Donoghue, is based on research and practice developed with the online and face-to-face Masters students in Photojournalism at the University of the Arts London (London College of Communication). The research forms part of Lowe’s ongoing research into virtual communities of practice in postgraduate education, and elements were presented at several international teaching and learning conferences, including as the keynote at the 2009 Blackboard Users Conference at Durham University. This was one of the earliest engagements with the use of blogs for critical reflective practice in Art and Design, and coined the term ‘e-flective practitioner’ to describe how technology can enhance the process of reflection by sharing it with others in a rapid and collaborative way. The accompanying slideshare presentation of the conference paper has had over 7300 views online.
