Additional information

This paper reported multi-disciplinary collaboration from the Flood Risk Management Research Consortium funded by EPSRC (GR/S76304/01, EP/F020511/1), EA/Defra, the Northern Ireland Rivers Agency and Office of Public Works, Ireland. It involved the universities of Bristol, Cardiff, Heriot Watt, Nottingham and Reading along with JBA Consulting. Its breadth of analysis has generated considerable interest with it being one of the most highly cited papers in the journal in the REF period. The work led to a collaboration with UC Irvine, USA (Wright 4). The Environment Agency (J. Walker) adopted it as a benchmark case for its software evaluation project.
