Additional information

<28> Originality: A new method for the open problem of reconstructing a cut and flattened 2D manifold embedded in 3D space back into its original shape. It is applied to the particular case of reconstructing an image of a flattened retina provided from experiment.

Significance: A novel computational approach applied to a basic neurobiological problem. The ability to reliably map a host of retinal structural features into visual space for central nervous system topological analysis, physiological assessment, behavioural correlations and developmental analysis are examples of the many possible applications.

Rigour: Method validated on 297 samples. Software available as open source.
