<20>Originality: Challenges widely held assumptions by designers about working with children with ASC. Demonstrates proof-of-concept through qualitative examples of interactions. Shows importance of designing tools open to use in unanticipated ways.

Significance: Significant contribution to research into supporting and facilitating communication in the design process. Provides general principles of use for designers working with ASC populations. Could greatly benefit the effective inclusion of all children in design of interactive technology.

Rigour: Exemplary example of theory-informed research and design. Sound and appropriate application of Participatory Design methodology. IDC 2012: 29% acceptance. Invited (extended) submission for IJCCI journal: accepted with minor revisions.
