Additional information

<06> Originality: First rural outdoor mesh network deployment involving long-distance over-water links using combined solar and wind power to minimise cost and size of remote self-powered masts.

Significance: Widespread adoption in the region. Emergency health services used the Tegola network after lightning strikes knocked out the telephones to Arnisdale and a wider area. The Tegola project influenced the Royal Society of Edinburgh’s "Digital Scotland" report and through this the House of Lords report "Broadband for all: an alternative vision".

Rigour: Deployment connected around fifteen houses from widely-dispersed coastal and remote communities. Downtimes of a few days in 3.5 years: http://bit.ly/13At6IQ.
