Additional information

<29> Originality: Uses a novel method allowing matched testing of low-level and high-level visual aftereffects to show remarkable similarities in those effects. The similarities were predicted by our computational models but never previously demonstrated.

Significance: A large community of researchers has built up around the idea that faces are processed using mechanisms very different from those for oriented patterns, and this work casts significant doubt on that field's assumptions.

Rigour: Similar results are found across six subjects each evaluated for at least five hours, using a variety of input stimuli.
