The development of a zero gap alkaline water electrolyser system was done in collaboration with ITM Power, Teer Coatings and Boddingtons Plastics. The work demonstrated more efficient and lower cost non-precious metal catalyst for hydrogen evolution in water electrolyser. A patent was filed with Teer Coatings Ltd (WO2013124647 A2) based on this work and they are now scaling up from a prototype to a new product (Dr Xiaoling Zhang, Teer Coatings Ltd, xiaoling.zhang@miba.com).
