An active pixel sensor x-ray diffraction (APXRD) system for breast cancer diagnosis
Previous results from this group (plus others) demonstrated that X-ray diffraction signatures provide enhanced diagnosis of breast cancer but nobody has been able to translate these findings into a clinical system. CMOS Active Pixel Sensor (APS) technology can be used in a clinical setting and this paper was the demonstration that tissue diffraction measurements could be made using an imaging sensor designed using this technology. Results from papers (1) and (2) have led to the development of the world’s largest radiation hard imaging APS through the ‘MI-3 plus’ consortium. Role: The first author was my PhD student.
