A Novel Nano-Ni/SiO2 Catalyst for Hydrogen Production from Steam Reforming of Ethanol
Novel, uniform nano-sized, nickel particles incorporated into silica based catalysts which are exceptionally efficient for the conversion of ethanol to hydrogen are reported. We have subsequently published research on the application of these nano-nickel catalysts for hydrogen production from waste plastics, tyres and biomass in several high impact journals. The novelty of the catalysts and the range of potential applications for hydrogen production and gasification has attracted the award of an EPSRC Research Grant (EPSRC G036608/1, 2012-2015, £439K) with the collaboration of a catalyst company (Catal International Ltd; Mr. A.Holt) and waste gasification company (ITI Energy Ltd.; Mr A. Fordham).
