This chapter emerges from the authors’ doctoral research and their cumulative research and professional experience with Writing-PAD which investigates linking writing and design practices through the use of innovative and alternative research modes, such as design tools playfully applied to the visual capture of dialogues and conversations; visual patterning as the starting points for written structure; and the mapping new knowledge through words and images. The scholarship has expanded the innovative possibilities of research writing and its recognition is witnessed in this international ‘Companion’ series chapter invited by the Editor (an international authority on creative writing).
