Additional information

This work demonstrated that the incorporation of an adsorbent material into a domestic dishwasher results in substantial energy savings compared to the most efficient current designs. The system developed here employs a silica gel cartridge that dries and warms the air during the drying stage and it is regenerated during the washing stage. The research was funded by Indesit Company Spa who are developing a commercial product based on the results (Massimo Galieni, Indesit, email available). Italian patent application is under revision (TO2012A000597), with EU submission pending.
