The work represented in this paper, whose main content has been disseminated at conferences for about two years, has led to a GBP1.6M EPSRC “critical mass” grant (EP/J010847/1) and, separately, new collaborations with Prof M Gillan (ID_in_audit_file@ucl.ac.uk) and Prof F Manby (ID_in_audit_file@bristol.ac.uk). The work is related to a patent, managed by Cambridge Enterprise, with the first licensee (Sandia National Laboratories) due to sign by Autumn 2013. Shell Inc. has committed GBP120k to finance a PhD studentship starting October 2013 to further development (ID_in_audit_file@shell.com).
