Additional information

The paper describes the first measurements and modelling of the wavelength dependent optical properties of graphene allowing for monitoring of surface contamination for the optimization of graphene-based devices. As a direct consequence of the work described in the paper, Dr M. Bruna was appointed from the Politecnico di Torino, Italy to a three year Marie Curie Fellowship (start date October 2011 value £159,616) as part of a total grant of £442,000 [EC FP7 264694, GENIUS-ITN, 2010] at Cambridge. Dr Stefano Borini has been hired by Nokia Research Cambridge to continue the development of graphene technology for sensing and opto-electronics.
