A small proportion of the Medical War has been previously published in article form. Approximately 6,000 words on venereal disease in Chapter 2 have been drawn from part of a 1995 article in Medical History. Around 4,000 words from an 1996 article in Medical History (on malaria in both world wars) appears in substantially revised form, with much additional information, in the chapter 'War Against Nature'. Other articles on the Great War merely amplify aspects of the book and are cited where appropriate. Overall, no more than one-fifteenth of the book has been republished.
