Double-weighted statement

This book involved a substantial amount of research, using both primary and secondary materials in several languages. It was designed to be the most comprehensive single-volume history of global communism, from the origins of political communism in the late eighteenth century. While it gives substantial attention to the main communist powers – the Soviet Union and China – it also provides detailed analysis of significant communist movements in the rest of the world, from Ethiopia to West Bengal to Cambodia, and demanded the mastery of many historiographies. It also developed an original analytical framework to categorise the varieties of communism.
