Double-weighted statement

R. H. Tawney was the most significant British socialist thinker of the twentieth century and a pioneering scholar. Unlike previous studies of Tawney’s thought, The Life of R. H. Tawney: Socialism and History was written with the support of his literary executor and descendants who made available documents held by the family and lifted previous restrictions on the use of, and quotation from, the Tawney papers. It is thus an authorised, complete biography, based on 32 collections of papers in 15 archives. It also includes three chapters of intellectual history on Tawney’s politics and religion, historical writings, and educational thought.
