This paper introduces a new and original model for lot sizing that sequences the preparation of an important material, and contains extensive experimental results. The research was in partnership with the State University of São Paulo (UNESP), Brazil, as one of three Brazilian partners in a 3-year FP7-PEOPLE-2009-IRSES project (reference 246881, “Industrial Extensions to Production Planning and Scheduling”), co-financed by a Global Research Award from the Royal Academy of Engineering.
