Kierkegaard and the Problem of Self-Love
An earlier version of parts of chapter 2 was published in 2007, but the chapter has been substantially revised in the light of research conducted since 1 Jan 2008 and the book’s overall thesis puts the earlier material into a new and broader philosophical context. At least 85% of the book is completely new for this submission (approx. 80,000 words).
This output is the outcome of an extensive research effort. It includes several chapters versions of which have been published independently and so contains more than two pieces submittable in their own right. The view of proper self-love it develops goes beyond any existing literature on Kierkegaard. As well as engaging in detail with primary and secondary Kierkegaard material, the book addresses a much wider literature on friendship, self-sacrifice, hope, trust and forgiveness. In these ways, the first two conditions (Panel Criteria and Working Methods p. 86, para 64) are met.
