Double-weighted statement

"Black Milk" is the first comparative study to employ a full range of North American and Brazilian visual responses to slavery, and shows how different the Brazilian museological archive of slavery is from that of Europe and North America. The book makes available a hitherto largely unknown visual archive relating to North American and Brazilian slavery in print, fine art, photographic and museum archives. The discovery and creation of this archive is the result of six years of research in Brazilian collections in Rio, Sao Paulo, Recife and Minas Gerais as well as numerous North American collections.
