<01> This patent was one of the outcomes of the research on forecasting failures in ATMs or points of sale. Its goal was to decrease the management costs of ATMs by reducing their outage time. NCR, who financially supported the original research, developed a product based on the prototype built at Kent, which can be deployed as a service in any of their ATMs or points of sale. The innovative aspect of the research, and its potential to be commercialised, is attested by this and a second patent that were filed by NCR on behalf of the Kent researchers.
