Investigation of cold-formed steel structural members with perforations of different arrangements subjected to compression loading
This paper described in detail a comprehensive experimental test programme to ascertain the effects that different shapes of perforations have on the structural behaviour of cold formed thin walled column members of varying thicknesses and cross-section dimensions. A comprehensive finite element model was also developed to model the behaviour of the structural members. A parametric study was carried out so that a generalised design rule could be produced for possible adoption in design codes. All the finite element analysis results were benchmarked against test results and applicable design codes (from different countries). Collaboration with the University of Strathclyde and a major manufacturing company in the West of Scotland helped with the execution of this work.
