Establishing the association between collaborative working and construction project performance based upon client and contractor perceptions
The assumption that collaborative working has a beneficial impact on project performance underlies many recent construction reform agendas internationally, though supporting evidence is largely anecdotal or limited to individual cases. A longitudinal research study by Greenwood (DTI Partners in Innovation - PiI 39-3-670) led to further work, reported here, in which aspects of project performance are evaluated against different degrees of collaborative working. A rich picture emerged of how the association between the two headline concepts may be explained. Aside from its theoretical contribution, the work has a practical implication in terms of how project performance can be improved.
