Additional information

This study was funded by SKF Engineering and Research Centre, The Netherlands (£70k, contact C. Vielliard). Confidential reports were presented to SKF and this publication followed from sections of this research. The results were used by industry and reported in terms of ceramic material ranking although details of suppliers remain industrially confidential. The methodologies from this research have been applied to other forms of ceramic surface failure in terms of missing material. This has led to additional funding from SKF (£70k) for a PhD studentship led by Professor Hadfield that completes in early 2014.
