Acts and Apparitions : Discourses on the Real in Performance Practice and Theory 1990-2010

'Acts and Apparitions' challenges an influential discourse which has established a binary between dramatic and postdramatic theatre. This necessitated in depth and complex interrogation of philosophical concepts which required returning to the original Derridean writings and examining their application across a significant body of current performance and theatre theory, in order to provide substantively new readings of Derrida in relation to theatre and performance. The scope of the project stretched across two decades of performance, and a wide range of international theatre practice was addressed in order to substantiate the innovative theoretical claims the book was making.
