Additional information

This paper developed a novel method for modelling complex 3D fracture in concrete considering spatially random heterogeneous properties. It is the first 3D study reporting statistical results for assessment of structural reliability based on Monte Carlo simulations. The results were presented as invited Keynotes on 2010 European Conference on Computational Mechanics in Paris and 2012 IUTAM Symposium on Multiscale Problems in Stochastic Mechanics in Karlsruhe. It played a key role in Yang’s securing a RS Research Grant (£15k), an EPSRC PIA Award (£14k), and a recent major EPSRC joint project ("QUBE", £1.4M, UoM share £502k and Yang with 40%).
