Additional information

The work was conducted in collaboration with Airbus (UK) and BAE systems (SABCAD project). Structural adhesive bonding is a key player in light weight and energy efficient structures and this paper addresses a major challenge of efficient and accurate prediction of the long-term in-service fatigue resistance of bonded assemblies. Bonded joints under cyclic loading were investigated by using physical tests and the wear-out cohesive zone based numerical modelling. This output led to a current project in IComp (Limerick) on bonded repairs of composites (REPCOMP, funded by Enterprise Ireland).
