Additional information

The flow past normal and oblique flat plates was numerically investigated with steady and varying gust velocity inlets. The paper explains the quasi-periodic force response and presents a transient drag reconstruction methodology. From an engineering perspective the stabilizing fins and rudders of sub-marines/ships, down-force spoilers of race cars, mixer grids and wind turbines rarely experience an upstream uniform flow. Thus, from a practical point of view, it is very interesting, to not only understand the flow over arbitrarily inclined configurations, but also to look into a methodology for the response prediction of such complex flows.
