Double-weighted statement

This work makes a complex argument that implies knowledge of the entire range of the poet’s work —poetic and dramatic—and the bibliography on it; familiarity with oral traditions dating back to the Renaissance, and the critical issues that they present; theory of the lyric; and the representation of homosexual desire. The argument draws on archival research on over 200 poems in the poet’s autograph manuscripts (which still await a definitive edition) as well as the consultation of sources in libraries in Spain, the United States, and the Netherlands.
