Additional information

This paper represents an important continuation of a long-established theme within our automotive control research team. This theme, namely integration of vehicle control systems, featured strongly in our RAE2008 submission. In this study, a 6 Degrees-of-Freedom non-linear vehicle handling model has been developed. All four active chassis control systems have been evaluated in standalone mode over a wide range of vehicle handling conditions. Based on this analysis, a novel rule-based integration strategy has been proposed to improve vehicle handling. A comparison of the standalone and integrated strategies shows that the integrated control strategy can significantly improve vehicle stability.
