Applying information foraging theory to understand user interaction with content-based image retrieval
<17> This paper carries a step forward to develop current research on interactive multimedia information retrieval (IR) through modelling users systematically based on the established Information Foraging Theory. This research is different from the existing research that models users’ behaviours in an exploratory manor rather than a systematic manor. This work provides scaffolding for creating user models that can be applied to the IR systems automatically and to make ‘bringing the users into the search loop’ possible. An EPSRC project proposal is inspired and developed based on this work to develop a user-centred IR model based on the user models.
