Additional information
Zernike moments are a key tool in computer vision with applications in object recognition and retrieval. A numerical acceleration is presented, which enables a 2-orders-of-magnitude speed-up of their calculation and is applicable to any object of any dimensionality. Subsequently, we applied it to morphology-based risk assessment of cerebral aneurysms and shape-based aneurysmal classification/retrieval (cf. IEEE Trans on Medical Imaging, 26(9):1270-82). The method is in the process of being transferred to a major medical imaging vendor (Philips Healthcare) through an industrial contract.
