Additional information

<20> Originality: Demonstrates that children with complex communication needs (CCN) can use sophisticated joke-generation software, in school context, contrary to expectations.

Significance: Demonstrates creative application of technology to accessibility community, in area with currently little (practical) research. Provides significant implications, through ideas and methods, for practitioners developing communication of children with CCN. Illustrates steps in supporting language development and social communication. Extends use of AAC to bridge social gap between user and peers.

Rigour: Reviewers suggest that sound design of both software and study would inform the research of others in AAC and in studying improving language use through technology.
