<12> Originality: Outlines a vision of how database research can address the major problems faced by curated scientific databases, building on a research program by the authors and others over the past 10 years.

Significance: PODS is the top conference on database theory. This paper was invited as the keynote paper of PODS 2008, which is a major honour inviting the authors to outline an agenda for future research. Has inspired considerable subsequent research.

Rigour: Synthesizes previous separate research results into a coherent picture and identifies areas for future work.
