A comparison of the gas-blast and centrifugal-accelerator erosion testers: The influence of particle dynamics
Collaborative work with Norway (arising from earlier EPSRC grant), discovering why these two testers for characterising the erosive power of particulate materials give different results. This was fundamental to driving adoption of the centrifugal tester for testing particle impact processes. Attracted various industry-funded projects from UK and China (eg GEC), also extending into adhesion and particle attrition (eg Shepherd Construction/Drax Power Station) using the technique for process optimisation. Spawned collaborative research with University of Cambridge on carbon nanotubes for wear protection of composites, and 3-year research project funded by BASF, using this test technique for novel purposes. Deng was active researcher planning, executing and interpreting the work.
