Additional information

Published in a leading international journal (IF: 1.976), this paper investigates the interaction of damage mechanisms at stress raising features in next generation single crystal materials. The research offers a new methodology for predicting both fatigue crack initiation and propagation behaviour in novel single crystal alloys based on a damage tolerance approach from pre-existing flaws. This research has proved critical to Rolls-Royce in alloy down selection for next generation turbine blades and has led to further single crystal research at Swansea under the TSB funded programmes SAMULET (Total value £420k) and SILOET II (Total value £250k).
