Additional information

This work, funded by Rolls Royce, describes the development of a comprehensive novel computational model that captures all the important physical phenomena in the behaviour of difficult to cast TiAl turbine blades by novel centrifugal casting routes. The well validated computational model captures all the critical thermo-fluid-solidification behaviour of the cast ensuring prediction of any macro-defects that arise in the casting process, in collaboration with University of Birmingham. The resulting simulation tool is employed by Rolls Royce in the design of an industrial centrifugal casting process for the manufacture of novel TiAl turbine blades for aerospace applications.
