Micropolar hyper-elastoplasticity: constitutive model, consistent linearization, and simulation of 3D scale effects
A constitutive model for micropolar hyperelastic-based finite elastoplasticity is formulated. The consistent linearisation is described and implemented. The resulting computational tool is suitable for the analysis of realistic three-dimensional problems. As an example, a notched cylindrical bar subjected to large axial displacements and large twist angles is presented. The size effect is clearly captured. In the presence of strain localisation the regularising effect of the micropolar formulation is demonstrated. Apart from the presentation of a neat and thermodynamically consistent constitutive model, the key contribution of this research lies in the development of the solution algorithm which makes realistic computations feasible.
