This paper is part of the new research into the fundamental understanding of graphene properties. This paper was among the "top 25 hottest articles" (ranked 16) in Composites B during Oct-Dec 12. The work is new to the research group, but – since then the European Commission has chosen graphene as one of Europe’s first “Future Emerging Technology” flagship programmes worth a total of €1B for it and described as “the largest research excellence awards in history”- there is a wide held view that work in this field will have an impact in the future.
