Additional information

The outcome of a collaborative project involving universities from Mexico and US and funded by a US Environmental Protection Agency collaborative research grant (SU835338), this paper reports the first colorimetric sensor developed for solar disinfection of water (which is used by 4.5 million people across the developing world). It resulted in subsequent joint funding (NSF-CBET Award 1033317) of $1m (equivalent) from NSF (Cincinnati & Florida), Science Foundation Ireland (Dublin Institute of Technology) and DEL (NI) and led to invited expert lectures in Brazil, USA, China & Europe; subsequent publication of four joint papers and three invited book chapters.
